ILCA Will Hold Bi-Annual Convention in San Diego

The International Labor Communications Association (ILCA) will hold its bi-annual convention this year in San Diego from November 29- December 1.

The ILCA supports labor communicators in North America and is an allied organization of the AFL-CIO. IAM Assistant Communications Director DeLane Adams serves as Secretary-Treasurer on the ILCA Executive Board.

The IAM Communications Department, Districts, and Locals have been recognized for ILCA awards, including the 2022 ILCA Labor Media Contest. The annual ILCA Journalism/Media contest is open to ILCA member publications from dozens of local and international unions, and the 2023 winners will be announced at the convention.

The ILCA is holding its first in-person convention since the pandemic. This is a full three-day event, including networking receptions, the ILCA awards luncheon, and a robust schedule of panels and workshops around Communicating in the 21st Century Labor Movement – Organizing for the Future.

Past conventions have been a time to share best practices with other labor communications staffers across the country and, in this year’s case, the globe. The convention supports strong training for communicators on both sides of the PR/Journalist house.

This year, ILCA will host a labor reporter panel discussion (where we’ll put them in the hot seat!) and workshops on AI, social media, new technology, podcasting, earned media, video production, design, and more.

We’ll also be centering our advanced communicators day on strike preparedness, as we all have been continuing hard work this strike summer.
