A three-day IAM motorcycle fundraiser hosted by the Air Transport Territory benefiting Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines recently took place.
Each rider was encouraged to fundraise a minimum of $300 for the ride. The 700 mile ride began at Local Lodge 1781 in Burlingame, Calif., and concluded the evening of July 14. The 25 Harley’s, trikes with several other motorcycles, slingshots, six Mustangs and a support vehicle with a trailer traveled the scenic route.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the members that supported and contributed to this great event raising over $190,000.” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen.
This was the fifth year of the Kourpias Ride, which was named after the late IAM International President George Kourpias, the ride was to remember and honor his birthday.

Original founding riders, IAM Secretary-Treasure Dora Cervantes and retired General Vice President Mark Blondin, both participated during the fundraiser event. Union members from around North America traveled to the Bay Area to join fellow motorcycle enthusiasts riding the coastline and into Napa Valley.
IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan participated with some staff members who rode in slingshots and a convertible. TCU/IAM National President Artie Maratea and Carmen President Don Grissom also participated on Saturday’s trip.
On Saturday evening, a dinner was held at the IAM Local 1781 Hall, where awards were given out to those who helped coordinate and supported putting the historic ride together.
“I’m totally amazed at the support and generosity of IAM members who donated to make this event happen,” said GDA | TLC President Russ Gittlen. “These charity dollars will help GDA|TLC continue to raise these incredible dogs that help so many people.”
