Chicago Railroad Local 478 Honors Members, Retirees
IAM Local 478, known as the Albert J. Hayes local, recently held its 43rd annual awards ceremony to recognize the achievements of their active and retired members.

“Local 478 has a distinguished history as one of the most important IAM locals in the rail industry,” said Richie Johnsen, Chief of Staff to the International President. “I congratulate all those who were honored on this special evening. Also, a special thanks goes to Local 478 President Mike Lemon for keeping this tradition going during these trying times.”

Attendees included a 90-year-old former secretary-treasurer of the local who has been retired for more than 43 years.

Local 478 (District 19) represents members in and around railroad shops of the UPRR, BNSF, METRA, BRC and SOO Line Railroads in Chicago, and has always been proactive in holding events to raise money for charity.

Most recently, they organized fundraisers for Guide Dogs of America (GDA) and the Machinists Non-Partisan Political League (MNPL).
