Women from IAM District 26 and retired Eastern Territory Education Representative Donna Perinetti donated their time and efforts on International Women’s Day by participating in the “Light for Ukraine” project, a Ukrainians Abroad initiative to aid the suffering soldiers and citizens of Ukraine.
IAM Sisters across the district collected and sent goods, including flashlights, batteries, hand and toe warmers, and solar chargers, to the organization’s Brooklyn, NY, shipping base.
“This senseless war has brought unnecessary pain and suffering to the Ukrainian people and has united people worldwide to offer assistance,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “The IAM is always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. I commend these Machinists sisters for their leadership in getting involved in this inspiring project, which will help provide much-needed goods for the Ukrainian people.”
The sisters are part of the IAM Leadership Excellence Assembly of Dedicated Sisters program (IAM LEADS), which recruits women Machinists to be union leaders at all levels of the organization.
