GST Cervantes Delivers Keynote Address at Chicago Jobs with Justice’s ‘2023 Fiesta de las Rosas’

IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes recently delivered a passionate keynote address to the attendees at the Chicago Jobs with Justice’s 2023 Fiesta de las Rosas. The event celebrated the incredible contributions of influential leaders and organizations that have positively impacted the community.

During her speech, Cervantes emphasized the importance of organizing and representation in the labor movement.

“The IAM is doing everything to promote women, minorities, and people of color,” said Cervantes. “You can’t organize and not look like your members.”

“We represent every spectrum of labor because not only the railroad workers need a voice, but so do the flight attendants and the ticket agents,” continued Cervantes.

Cervantes also stressed the importance of working people’s solidarity and their cooperation in achieving common goals.

Cervantes spoke passionately about the need for equality and fair treatment in the workplace and that everyone deserves equal wages, benefits, and a voice.

“Now is the time to get a decent wage for everybody,” stated Cervantes. “It doesn’t matter what you speak or look like, you’re a worker. We need equality, representation, and dignity for all.”

The 2023 Fiestas de las Rosas honorees included LCLAA Chicago Chapter President and Painters Local 184 District Council 14 President José Alcala, Dr. Robert C. Jones, Jr., and El Paseo Community Garden.

The event occurred at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago.
