Hawaii Local 1998 Women’s Committee Builds Solidarity and Engagement for Members, Community

The Sisters of IAM Local 1998 in Honolulu recently held their first Women’s Committee “Painting with a Twist” event. The purpose was to build a culture of camaraderie and solidarity, as well as planning future community engagement activities.

“I am excited and encouraged for the future of Local 1998’s Women’s Committee,” said Western Territory General Vice President Gary R. Allen. “I look forward to seeing the fruit of their labor for their Local Lodge, the IAM, and the community at large.”

The Women’s Committee is currently formulating plans to support domestic violence resource centers, advocacy groups supporting pregnant teens, and finalizing an event to celebrate the annual ACTS Day of service.

ACTS, short for “A Commitment to Serve,” is an annual day of advocacy celebrated on August 10 of every year in honor of the legacy of the late IAM Grand Lodge Representative Maria Santiago Lillis.
