Healthcare Professionals at Washington State MultiCare Healthcare System Vote Overwhelmingly to Join IAM

The momentum of healthcare organizing in the IAM is growing, as shown by the recent victory of 74 healthcare professionals at MultiCare Healthcare System in Tacoma, Wash., who voted to join IAM District 160. The healthcare professionals at MultiCare voted to join IAM Healthcare to strengthen their voice on the job. They cited concerns about safe staffing levels, cuts to hours, favoritism and security issues.

The successful organizing campaign was led by District 160 Business Representative/Organizer Beth Bergeon, whose exceptional leadership and strategic guidance were not just instrumental, but the backbone of the campaign’s success.

“They wanted to be represented so they could have a voice in the workplace and continue to put patients first,” said Bergeon. “Safe staffing issues, favoritism, and the cutting back of hours were some of the issues of concern. I am happy that this group voted to regain the respect and dignity on the job they deserve.”

The win at MultiCare is the latest in a string of organizing victories for the IAM in the healthcare sector. The IAM recently won elections at California, Ohio and New Mexico healthcare facilities.

“We are thrilled to welcome the newly organized MultiCare members,” said IAM Western Territory General Vice President Gary R. Allen.  They gain not just a voice in their workplace but also access to resources and support systems that empower them to deliver the highest-quality patient care possible and the respect and dignity they deserve. This victory is thanks to the steadfast leadership of District 160 Business Representative/ Organizer Beth Bergeon. Her dedication and strategic direction were instrumental in driving this campaign to success!”

“This victory is a sign of the growing desire of healthcare workers to have an IAM Union voice,” said IAM International President Brian Bryant. “We are committed to helping healthcare workers win the respect and fair treatment they deserve.”
