IAM Applauds Confirmation of FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2023 — Richie Johnsen, Air Transport Territory General Vice President of the 600,000-member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), America’s largest airline union, released the following statement following the U.S. Senate’s 98-0 vote to confirm President Biden’s nominee to lead the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Michael Whitaker:

“With so many challenges facing airline customers and employees, the IAM is relieved to finally have a partner to work with at the FAA during these turbulent and changing times for the aviation industry.

“Michael Whitaker understands that it is hardworking and dedicated aviation workers who truly make our nation and world move. He knows that labor, industry, and government must work collaboratively to ensure that aviation jobs are safe and sustainable careers. Together, we look forward to passing a strong FAA reauthorization and continuing to transform this vital industry into the future.
