Trenton, N.J., Nov. 7, 2024 – The New Jersey State Council of Machinists and IAM Automotive Lodge 447 recently announced its endorsement of the Motor Vehicle Open Recall Notice and Fair Compensation Act (A4380/S3309) in a letter to New Jersey State Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari. This bipartisan legislation would require thousands of hard-working automotive dealership mechanics across the state to receive the same wages for warranty repair services as other repair services, improving the quality of life for them, their families, and their communities.
The Motor Vehicle Open Recall Notice and Fair Compensation Act seeks to ensure fair wages for thousands of automotive dealership mechanics across the state. This bill would improve the quality of life for mechanics, their families, and the communities they serve.
“As you may know, the IAM is a diverse labor union representing hundreds of skilled automotive technicians throughout New Jersey,” wrote New Jersey State Council of Machinists Cristino Vilorio. “Our goal at the union is always to ensure our members are paid fairly for their labor. If successfully signed into law, this bill would ensure mechanics are paid fair wages, regardless of whether it’s warranty or non-warranty work. This would improve working conditions and increase wages for these hard-working technicians who keep New Jersey moving.”
The IAM urges swift legislative action to pass the Motor Vehicle Open Recall Notice and Fair Compensation Act (A4380/S3309) and for New Jersey lawmakers to support this measure.
“Passing this important legislation in New Jersey is vital not only for our members throughout the state but also for the entire New Jersey auto industry,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “The Eastern Territory will engage every IAM member to ensure this legislation passes to create fair labor standards for all its workers. Our members deserve fair and just compensation for their work.”
