IAM Union Mourns Loss of Grand Lodge Auditor Michael Gonzales

The IAM is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Grand Lodge Auditor Michael P. Gonzales. He passed away on April 12, 2024 at the age of 66.

Gonzales, a nearly 33-year IAM member, initiated into IAM Local 743 as an assembler Hamilton Sundstrand. He later became a Grand Lodge Auditor and was a dedicated member of the IAM Grand Lodge Auditor’s Association.

“Brother Gonzales was a remarkable individual who helped improve our union,” said IAM International President Brian Bryant. “The IAM is grateful for his dedication and service for over 30 years. Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Gonzales enjoyed nature, hiking, attending concerts, and NASCAR, and was an avid supporter of the IAM’s favorite charity, Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines.

“The news of Michael’s passing has been difficult for our auditing team,” said IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes. “We are family, and it hurts when you lose a member of the family. My condolences go out to his loved ones, and I appreciate them sharing him with the IAM. His experience will be missed, but most of all, we will dearly miss Michael.”

Gonzales is survived by his children, Kristi Gonzales and Kellie Gonzales; his sisters, Susan Catalano, Carol Mathieu, and Paula Bishop; several nieces and nephews; and his grandchildren, Jasper, Jase Gonzales, and Jaxon Hawley. He also leaves behind his cherished companion, Holly Delore, and his former wife, Doris Gonzales. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur T. Gonzales Jr.

“We have lost a valued member of the Auditor’s Association,” said Grand Lodge Auditor and President of the IAM Grand Lodge Auditor’s Association Pat Smutney. “His years of experience were invaluable in keeping the IAM financially healthy. And his friendship was priceless. The Association’s thoughts and prayers go out to the Gonzales family.”

The Gonzales family request that donations be made in Michael’s memory to Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines in lieu of flowers.
