IAM Wins Campaign to Welcome Honesdale, Pa. Public Works Employees into Union

Public works employees in the Pennsylvania Borough of Honesdale, near Scranton, unanimously elected to become members of the IAM on Jan. 3.

Workers for the borough began organizing last fall. Brent Coleman, the Eastern Territory’s Organizing Lead, helped with the campaign.

“These are the kinds of workers that benefit from unionizing,” said Coleman. “Their wages and benefits had been stagnant for years. Few people can survive the economy in 2024 with wages from 2020.”

The workers now prepare to be trained on negotiations and first contract demands.

“Our union has a long history of championing the rights of workers who serve local governments, and we look forward to Borough of Honesdale Public Works employees joining the IAM,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan.
