Indiana Local 1391 Spirit-Makers Ratify Contract to Keep Good Times Going

More than 30 members of IAM Local 1391 (District 34) ratified a strong new agreement recently. The members are employed by Proximo Distillers Indiana (PDI)  in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

The new three-year agreement features wage increases of 24% over the life of the deal, two weeks of vacation for new hires, and accelerated vacation accruals for all workers. Juneteenth was added as a holiday, and new junior control engineer positions with premium pay were created.

Since acquiring the bottling operation in 2011, PDI has steadily invested in the plant’s growth, resulting in a positive trajectory for both the facility and its workforce.

“I’ve worked at the plant for 25 years for several owners, and speaking on behalf of the members, this is the best contract and management team we’ve ever had,” said Local 1391 President and Shop Steward Rodney Weaver. “Our input and professionalism are valued, and not just on payday.”

Indiana went right to work in 2012, and Proximo has maintained 100% dues payers since its inception. District 34 Directing Business Representative D. Scott Rich credits Local 1391 President and Shop Steward Rodney Weaver for those results and shares the members’ pride in their work.

“The relationship with Proximo started well and has grown more collaborative over time,” said Rich. “Our members don’t just have jobs, they have careers with work-life balance.”

The facility bottles Jose Cuervo Tequila, Three Olives Vodka, and Kraken rum. Proximo has over 30 brands, including 1800 Tequila, Bushmills Irish Whiskey, Stranahan’s, Pendleton, and many others.

“There are many choices for responsibly drinking spirits,” said Rich. “IAM members can feel great about enjoying these spirits, knowing the employer values its people and treats them like the professionals they are.”

“We’re extremely proud of the work our members do, and the products they help to produce,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “The dedication and craftsmanship that our members exhibit shapes the very essence of the products we champion.”
