Shaun Junkins Appointed IAM Southern Territory Special Representative

IAM International President Brian Bryant has appointed longtime organizer, negotiator and activist Shaun Junkins as an IAM Southern Territory Special Representative. The appointment is effective June 1, 2024.

Junkins’ appointment is a testament to his extensive experience and expertise, particularly his notable contributions as a Business Representative for District 70. His leadership in numerous negotiations has significantly improved the lives of IAM members and their families, showcasing his commitment to members’ well-being.

He has also been a good steward in the community. In 2019, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly (D) appointed Junkins to the KANSASWORKS State Board, where he has been a strong voice for workforce development and economic opportunity.

Junkins’ influence extends to the political arena as well. As the Vice Chair of the Kansas Democratic Party, he has played a pivotal role in shaping policy and advocating for the rights of working families. His upcoming role as a delegate to the 2024 Democratic Convention underscores his commitment to issues such as fair wages, workplace safety and collective bargaining rights.

“We are excited about the latest addition to the Southern Territory,” said Bryant. “Shaun is a seasoned leader with an impressive service and advocacy track record on behalf of the membership.”

Junkins’ dedication to the labor movement is further underscored by his role as a member of the Kansas AFL-CIO executive board. In this capacity, he has worked tirelessly to advance the interests of union members and ensure that their voices are heard in the halls of the Topeka Capitol.

“Shaun’s extensive experience in labor, community organizing, and collective bargaining will be invaluable as he takes on this new role within our territory,” said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin. “We are confident that his passion and leadership will strengthen our union and enable us to better serve our members across the Southern Territory.”
