Delta Air Lines workers from around the country and supporters from other unions, along with community groups, gathered in Atlanta at the Delta Employee World Lot to show support for the historic campaign.
On Wednesday, July 17, the organizing event showed massive support for unionizing the ramp, cargo, and tower workers to the employees going through the parking lot gates and to the public from many news reporters on the scene covering the story. More than 100 attendees were met with car honks, smiles, and waves from Delta workers driving in and out of the lot. During the three days of action across the airport, IAM organizers met with hundreds of Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines employees at many employee bus stops.
Dan McCurdy, a Minneapolis-based 26-year Delta Air Lines ramp employee, attended several of the organizing events.
“People are coming together, it’s beautiful,” said McCurdy. “If you have been thinking about signing a card, now is the time.”
The organizing drive is becoming more active, and the Atlanta community is supporting it and pushing Delta Air Lines workers closer to a union election.
Delta workers also participated in a Roland Martin Unfiltered talk show to discuss the union organizing campaign and the issues workers want to be corrected with an IAM union contract. After the show, Martin talked to the workers and stated, “Nothing will change unless you force the change!”

“We have never been closer to an election,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “This is in spite of the fact that Delta has spent millions of dollars on an anti-union lawyers and consultants to try to deny their workers even the right to vote on whether to have a union or not.”
