Jason Schroeder Appointed Southern Territory Special Representative

IAM International President Brian Bryant has appointed Jason Schroeder, a longtime IAM activist and leader, as an IAM Southern Territory Special Representative. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2024.

Schroeder was born and raised in a union home, his father being a union member until retirement, and his mother was a bank manager in the Detroit suburbs where he grew up.

Schroeder, a U.S. Air Force veteran, served as an F-15C Crew Chief from 1997 to 2001. His union involvement started in 2003 when he was hired at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga., where workers are represented by IAM Local 709.

Schroeder worked on the Flight Line as an F-22 and C-130J Avionics Technician and served as the union’s Shop Steward for approximately 10 years. He also served on the Classification Grievance Committee before being elected onto the Senior Negotiating Committee where he negotiated several contracts between Local 709 and Lockheed Martin.

In 2019, Schroeder was elected as Local 709’s Business Representative, and then in 2022 he was elected to the President / Directing Business Representative Position for the local.

Schroeder is passionate about political action for the interests of labor and has worked on multiple campaign drives with the IAM for Georgia’s U.S. Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, and former Georgia State Rep. Stacey Abrams.

“Jason’s extensive experience in bargaining, political action, and representing our members makes him a valuable addition to the Southern Territory’s team,” said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin. “We are happy to have him onboard and appreciate his specific and impressive skillset. He will continue to represent members of the Southern Territory and their interests well.”

Schroeder’s work will be focused on the Southern Territory’s automotive sector, and he will also be responsible for running the territory’s Disaster Preparedness program.
