Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) held a news conference Thursday with rail workers to demand companies provide them with at least seven paid sick days, a move supported by IAM-TCU. Last year Sanders led the effort to pass a legislative amendment to guarantee paid sick days to rail workers, but it failed in the Senate. Guaranteeing seven paid sick days to rail workers would cost the industry just $321 million dollars which is only about one percent of profits in a single year.
