Letter to the Editor: How Unions Can Build a Stronger South Carolina

South Carolina AFL-CIO President Erin McKee laid out the facts on how unions can help workers in her state in a recent letter to the editor of the Charleston Post & Courier.

Workers at Boeing’s Charleston, SC plant are seeking IAM representation despite intense pressure from the company and state politicians. Learn more about the campaign at BoeingWorkersSC.com.

“Can you imagine how much better a community we would have if Boeing workers were organized and our tax base was stronger?” said McKee. “We would have more money for teachers, police, firefighters, roads and infrastructure.”

States with strong union representation have higher median pay, spend more on public education and have less people working low-wage jobs, says McKee, citing data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Unions are a good investment for the worker’s family and the community,” said McKee.
