Chock-full of nostalgia and vivid images of old American tradition, the commercial showcases the state-of-the-art York facility and IAM members’ hard work and dedication in making American-made motorcycles exported around the world. “Export Freedom” reportedly never made it to air during the big game, but it’s receiving a great deal of attention online via various social networks and YouTube.
“There are people who believe America can’t build things anymore. That our cities, workers, products and technology can’t cut it in the global economy,” says the commercial voice over. “This is a story of some people who believe something different. These are people who believe in the American craftsman because they are American craftsmen.”
IAM Local 175 members and Harley-Davidson Production Technicians Ron Jones and John Young, who are both Team Leaders, speak in the commercial about the pride they have in their jobs.
“There’s a lot of pride in the employees here at the York plant,” said Jones. “We’ve put our blood, sweat and tears to make the product that we make. We definitely show to the world that we take pride in our craftsmanship.”
“We always strive to make something better, but we all have to work together in that group to make that section of the line work as best as we can,” said Young. “We don’t want nothing going out past us that’s not what we would want to ride as an employee.”
IAM-built Harley-Davidson motorcycles are shipped across the world from California to Saudi Arabia, from Michigan to Russia, China and beyond.
