IAM International President Brian Bryant, with Executive Council approval, is proud to announce the appointment of Michelle Hunt, a 17-year IAM member and longtime Local 2003 leader, to the IAM Law Committee.
The IAM Law Committee is responsible for collecting, reviewing, and proposing constitutional changes submitted to the 42nd IAM Grand Lodge Convention, which will take place in New Orleans in September 2028.
“Michelle’s years of dedicated service to IAM members, from her work as a shop steward to her leadership at the Local, District and state levels, have prepared her well for this important responsibility,” said Bryant. “She understands the importance of ensuring our members’ voices are heard, and I look forward to the experience and commitment she will bring to the Law Committee.”
A dedicated union activist, Hunt has served as Recording Secretary of IAM Local 2003 since 2021 and became the first woman President of the Alabama State Council, taking the oath of office in April 2026. She also serves on Local 2003’s Bylaws, Veterans and Legislative Committees, while continuing to serve as a Shop Steward, a role she has held since 2020.
Her commitment to the IAM extends throughout District 75, where she serves as a delegate and member of the District 75 Audit Committee. She was also a delegate to the 41st IAM International in New York, where she served as a Sergeant at Arms.
Hunt also serves as Vice President of the Alabama AFL-CIO and is active on its COPE Committee.
“I became involved with the union as a Shop Steward to help members with their grievances and help provide them with union communication,” said Hunt. “As Recording Secretary, I enjoy keeping the membership informed and being involved with the Local and the District. I am honored to be selected to the Law Committee, and I look forward to working hard for our members.”

I congratulate Michelle on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to seeing her continue to serve our membership on the Law Committee.”
Hunt brings a strong record of military and professional service to her new role. She served in the U.S. Army from 1990 to 1996 as an AH-64 Apache Armament/Avionics Repairer.
Her military service continues to shape her commitment to veterans and their families. She is a member of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) and remains passionate about supporting veterans and addressing the challenges they face.
Following her military service, Hunt began working at Fort Rucker in 1999 and has remained in the area. She currently works on the M1 Service Contract as a Quality Deficiency Reporting Technician supporting U.S. Army helicopters at Fort Rucker.
