Local 701 Auto Mechanics Strike in Illinois

IAM Local 701 auto mechanics, in negotiations for their first contract at Al Piemonte Chevrolet in East Dundee, IL, are on strike after the company made a subpar offer to their demands for better wages, benefits and working conditions.

IAM Local 701 auto mechanics at Al Piemonte Chevrolet in East Dundee, IL have voted to go on strike. The new members have been in negotiations for a first contract since the end of May.

“We started out asking for the standard automotive agreement, but we have moved our proposal in an effort to achieve a Local 701 contract,” said IAM Local 701 Business Representative Bill LePinske. “I’m really proud of our new members for standing up for the wages, benefits and working conditions that they deserve. We normally have a good relationship with Al Piemonte stores at other locations, which have been under contract for a long time. This situation is unfortunate and somewhat surprising.”

The company has made a subpar offer. Local 701 has suggested the use of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and the company has refused on two separate occasions.
