Local 743 Machinists Ratify Pact with Hamilton Sunstrand

Members of Local 743 in Windsor Locks, CT, have voted overwhelmingly to approve a new three-year contract with aviation electronics manufacturer Hamilton Sundstrand Corp. The new accord, which covers more than 1,000 members, successfully addressed members’ top concerns.

According to District 26 ADBR Jim Parent, the contract includes 2.5 percent pay raises for each of the three years, but workers will have to pay more for health insurance. “The average hourly wage of about $30 will increase by 76 cents this year and rise to nearly $33 an hour by the end of the contract in 2012,” said Parent.

“Our members demanded their three top priorities of job security, pension increase and no subcontracting and the union negotiating committee was successful in making headway in all three priorities,” said Local 743 President Mark Hebert. “Our members demonstrated their solidarity in and out of the shop during impromptu rallies, with union shirts, noise making and stickers. Our UAW 592 sisters and Brothers in Rockford, IL, supported us well and we thank them for that.”
