Machinists Remember, Honor the 9/11 Fallen

Today we mark the 17th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks, when 2,977 innocent people lost their lives as four commercial aircraft were hijacked and used as weapons. At the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and in a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania unimaginable events unfolded to change all of us.

Please take a moment today to remember the victims, three of whom were our members. United Airlines Customer Service employees Marianne McFarland and Jesus Sanchez were aboard United Airlines flight 175, one of the planes that hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center. IAM Organizer and New York City Firefighter Keith Maynard died helping others as the buildings collapsed.

I hope and pray we never see anything like that day again, and I am heartened that many of our members are dedicated to preventing it. To those of you who do the jobs that protect us each day, I sincerely thank you.

In solidarity,

Bob Martinez
IAM International President
