Machinists Union Reaches Tentative Agreement Covering 6,000 Members at Spirit AeroSystems in Kansas

WICHITA, Kan., June 16, 2023 – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has reached a tentative four-year labor agreement with Spirit AeroSystems. The approximately 6,000 IAM Local 839 (District 70) members at the facility produce 70% of Boeing’s narrow-body aircraft and defense and business jet structures.

The tentative agreement includes the following:

  • Up to a compounded 34% average pay increase through general wages increases, cost-of-living adjustments, and a guaranteed annual bonus
  • Continued Core and Enhanced health insurance and additional seed money for HSA plans.
  • A 14.7% increase in retirement benefits, including a new 401(k) match of 50 cents on the dollar, up to 4% total.
  • Sunday overtime is now voluntary
  • Job security enhancements
  • Increased paid time off

The IAM negotiating committee unanimously recommends approval of the pact, which will be voted on by members on Wednesday, June 21. The current contract expires at midnight on Saturday, June 24.
