Mark Schneider Named IAM General Counsel

Mark Schneider

IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger today announced Mark Schneider will join the IAM Legal Department as General Counsel, effective October 1, 2013. Schneider will replace outgoing General Counsel Chris Corson, who is concluding a 17-year IAM career that included five years as the IAM’s top legal officer.

“Chris Corson deserves the respect and gratitude of the IAM and its members for his efforts and commitment to justice on the job throughout his long career,” said Buffenbarger. “On behalf of the IAM Executive Council, I want to thank Chris for his journeyman service, his friendship and loyalty, all of which were of the highest order.”

A highly respected trial attorney, Schneider currently serves as Associate General Counsel of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Prior to that he was a partner at Jenner & Block LLC where he specialized in trial and appellate litigation involving the Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department. Schneider also was an associate at the law firm of Bredhoff & Kaiser.

“Mark’s broad legal experience and passionate advocacy will be an invaluable resource for the IAM and its many locals and districts,” said Buffenbarger. “He is also well known to a generation of IAM staff and representatives, having served previously as Associate Counsel in the IAM Legal Department. It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark back to the IAM staff.”

Deputy General Counsel Carla Siegel will serve as acting General Counsel until Schneider’s arrival on October 1.
