The IAM Local 2113 Negotiating Committee, along with District 78 Business Representative Jim Snider, recently participated in the Negotiation Preparation for Bargaining Committees program at the William W. Winpisinger Center in Hollywood, MD.

Local 2113 represents 530 employees at Autoliv Electronics in Markham, Ontario. Autoliv manufactures safety systems for the automotive industry.

With the current contract expiring in January 2016, the newly-elected committee started early preparations beginning with this training. The committee understood the need for education and preparation ahead of a tough round of bargaining.
“The week was busy and I am proud how the committee came together as a team and worked hard to get the best possible results from the week,” said Snider.

The committee came away from the week of training with a strategic plan and a clear direction to continue their preparations. One of the unique challenges indentified is the need to educate the membership. In the last two years the membership has doubled and many of these members have never worked in a unionized environment.

“We realized the need to educate the members about the bargaining process, the Local and the IAM in general,” said Snider. “This Local has a very rich history and we want them to be proud of what they are part of.”
