Maryland/DC State Council of Machinists Builds Power

IAM members from across the MD/DC area recently gathered at IAM Headquarters in Upper Marlboro, Md., for the annual Maryland/DC State Council of Machinists meeting.

Members heard from IAM International President Brian Bryant, Special Assistant to the International President Josh Hartford, and National Political and Legislative Assistant Director Ty Richardson.

“We have an election this year – and we’re all here because we care about who’s leading our country,” said IAM International President Brian Bryant. “Make no mistake: the future of our union, nation, and democracy will be on the ballot. Our membership and state councils have overwhelmingly endorsed Joe Biden, the most pro-union president of our lifetimes. We must re-elect President Biden, expand our pro-worker majority in the Senate, and take back the House for working families.”

The delegates held officer elections, filling some previously vacant seats, and completed the remaining business from the previous meeting.

IAM Political and Legislative Assistant Director Ty Richardson emphasized the vital role played by members in contributing to the Machinists’ Non-Partisan Political League (MNPL). Richardson also stressed that these contributions are instrumental in supporting legislative and political initiatives that directly impact the lives and livelihoods of IAM members.

What’s next: The next conference for the Maryland/DC State Council will occur on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at IAM Headquarters in Upper Marlboro, MD.
