Mediation Board Sets Dates for ExpressJet Election

The National Mediation Board (NMB) announced November 30, 2011 will mark the start of a three-week election period to determine union representation for more than 2,000 ExpressJet and Atlantic Southeast Flight Attendants.

The election, which will conclude at 2 pm Eastern Time on December 21, 2011, will be conducted by Telephone Electronic Voting and Internet Voting. Voting Instructions will be mailed to all eligible Flight Attendants on November 30, 2011.

“We’ve been anxiously waiting for election dates from the Mediation Board,” said Local 2339N member and ExpressJet Flight Attendant Sara Gonzales. “It’s so important for Flight Attendants to vote ‘Yes’ for the IAM as soon as their voting instructions arrive. Our combined numbers and the bargaining experience of the IAM will give us the opportunity to get the contract and the job security we all deserve.”

Under NMB rules, a representation election will take place following a Single Carrier ruling at a recently merged carrier when employees are represented by one or more unions.  The NMB issued a Single Carrier ruling for Flight Attendants at ExpressJet and Atlantic Southeast on October 28, 2011. The election is necessary before union representation issues can be resolved and integration of the two pre-merger Flight Attendant groups can occur.
