Sisters and Brothers,
This day holds solemn significance to each and every one of us. Individually, how we remember that morning 16 years ago is unique. But as a nation, as citizens and as a union, we share a common pain.
When four coordinated and brutal terrorist attacks killed nearly 3,000 innocent people on September 11, 2001, the cowards behind the plan attempted to topple our way of life. Together we prove them unsuccessful each day, week, month and year.
Today as a union, we honor three of our own IAM members who perished. They and the other American victims, as well as nearly 400 foreign nationals from 61 nations, will never be forgotten.
The families and friends of the victims, who will never see their loved ones again, are also in our hearts today.
Lastly, we honor those brave men and women of our military who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the ongoing global fight against terrorism. They too will live on in our hearts as true American heroes.
May God bless us all as we continue to move forward.
