The highlight of the recent meeting of the Michigan Machinists Council was the presentation of a 60-Year Service Award to Local Lodge 475 Trustee Ruth Cain.
Cain first initiated into the IAM in October 1951. In 1964, she became the first woman ever elected President of a local lodge in the state of Michigan. In addition to her current position as lodge Trustee, Cain also serves on Local 475’s Executive Board, which she has done for more than 50 years, and serves as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Michigan Machinists Retirees Club as well.
“Ruth Cain is a remarkable lady,” said Eastern Territory General Vice President Lynn D. Tucker, Jr. “She’s seen many changes in her 60 years of service – some good and some bad – yet her stamina and devotion to our members have remained constant. Ruth has set the bar high for the rest of us to follow.”
