IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger has announced the appointment of Grand Lodge Representative Mike Rose to serve as Chief of Staff of the IAM Woodworkers Department.

Rose will fill the position previously held by retired Woodworkers Chief of Staff Bill Street.

“Bill Street is retiring after an extraordinary union career,” said Buffenbarger. “We thank him for his many years of service and wish him a happy, healthy and long retirement.”

“The IAM Woodworkers Department plays an important role in the development of national and state forest public policy so our members can earn a good family wage and keep our rural communities alive and well. They are a vital part of our union,” continued Buffenbarger. “Mike Rose brings to his new post nearly 34 years of service in the forest products industry. We are honored to announce his appointment.”

Rose first initiated into IAM Local W-261 on September 18, 1980 while working in the logging department of the International Paper Company in Gardiner, OR. For eight years, he served as shop steward and chief shop steward. In 1995, Rose was elected Local W-261 Business Representative. Two years later, he went to work as a Business Representative/Organizer for Woodworkers District W-1 in Gladstone, OR. In 2008, Rose joined the Organizing Department at Grand Lodge. He currently serves on the Oregon Board of Forestry, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Resource Committee, and the Building and Wood Workers’ International World Board.
