Missouri ‘Rides for Guides’ is Big Success

The 4th Annual Spirit of the Midwest “Rides for Guides” was held on July 21 and 22, 2012 in St. Louis, MO. The two-day event included a motorcycle poker run on Saturday and a classic auto and motorcycle show on Sunday.

The annual event has raised in excess of $40,000 each year for Guide Dogs of America.

The poker run started and finished at the IAM District 837 Hall in Hazelwood, MO with the ride following the Mississippi River up to Quincy, IL. Lunch was provided at IAM Local 822 and then dinner was served when everyone returned to the IAM District 837 Hall. Participants raised pledges for Guide Dogs of America as part of the ride.

On Sunday, the Classic Car and Motorcycle show was held at IAM District 9 in Bridgeton, MO with trophies and awards presents for many classic auto and motorcycle classifications. Entertainment was provided by a local radio station and the IAM District 837 retiree’s band.

“There is a tremendous amount of preparation for and hard work during a weekend event like this,” said IAM Midwest Territory GVP Philip. J. Gruber. “We sincerely appreciate all the donations and help we receive from all the IAM Districts and Locals in the Midwest Territory.
