National Freight Negotiations Continue

National Freight Negotiations Continue

TCU’s National Negotiating Committee led by International President Bob Scardelletti and Carmen Division President Rich Johnson continues to meet with the National Carriers’ Conference Committee. Meetings were held between the parties on February 17th and March 16th with very little progress being made.

The parties have attempted to narrow the issues but the Carriers are very slow to respond during the negotiations. The Carriers are attempting to develop a comprehensive proposal to submit to TCU at the next meeting in April.

While TCU continues to meet, negotiations with most of the other rail unions have broken down. The Carriers have requested mediation with the Rail Labor Coalition which consists of the BLET, BMWED, Sheet Metal Workers, Signalmen, Firemen and Oilers, Train Dispatchers and the Boilermakers. The UTU has reported on its web site that it is suing the Carriers over the crew consist proposal and FELA proposal.

Negotiations this round are going to be very difficult.
