IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger has appointed Michel Richer and Chuck Herod to be Special Representatives in Canada and the IAM’s Eastern Territory, respectively. The appointments were effective September 1, 2015.

Richer, a 35-year IAM member, was formerly the general chairperson of IAM Local 1751 in St. Laurent, Quebec. He’s a member of the Quebec Council of Machinists and helped conduct leadership training for members at the William W. Winpisinger Center and in Quebec. Richer has worked as a station attendant for Air Canada in Montreal, Quebec City, Mirabel and Vancouver.

Herod joined the IAM’s staff as an apprentice organizer in January 2014 before serving as co-chair of the District 65 Organizing Committee in western New York. Herod was a trustee, steward and then chief steward at Local 2401 in West Valley, NY. He initiated into the IAM in December 2003 as a worker at the West Valley Demonstration Project.

“We’re excited about the contributions Michel and Chuck will make to our membership in Canada and the Eastern Territory,” said IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger. “Both are proven leaders who have a wealth of experience in organizing and fighting for our members.”
