New York AFL-CIO Honors Norm Smith

New York District 65 DBR Norm Smith was selected to receive the 2011 George Ritzer Award by the Jamestown, New York Area Labor Council AFL-CIO as part of the annual Labor Day Festival.

The award is named for George Ritzer, who served as the Jamestown Area Labor Council’s president for more than 20 years and as president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1. The award honors an individual who volunteers and contributes toward not only the labor movement but other community organizations.

“Norm is very deserving of this award,” said Eastern Territory GVP Lynn D. Tucker, Jr. “Labor has always reached out to help working men and women in the workplace and their communities, and Norm continues that tradition through his efforts.”

Smith will be presented with a plaque and medallion to commemorate the event.
