After recent organizing wins in the U.S. Virgin Islands, IAM members are forming new Local Lodge 340. “We are starting the Local Lodge with strong members and true labor activists,” said Southern Territory GLR Dave Porter. “We already have several other groups that are interested in the Machinists Union. There is great potential for growth for the new local.”

The three main Caribbean islands of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John (and several smaller islands) are an unincorporated territory of the United States, and residents are U.S. citizens. The combined land area is approximately twice the size of Washington, DC.

“This is a great milestone for the Southern Territory and the entire IAM,” said Southern Territory GVP Bob Martinez. “I believe the IAM has a strong future in the Caribbean, in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.”
