Ohio District 54 Claims Victory over IBT

Members of IAM Local 2276, District 54 employed at Ultra-Met in Urbana, OH prevailed over the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) in an attempted raid. Despite the disruption caused by the attempt, IAM members and leaders maintained their focus, preparing for upcoming negotiations.

“Preparations for these negotiations have been intensive,” said District 54 PDBR Wright. “Local 2276 stewards attended training that included grievance procedure classes along with other essential union programs. While the attempted raid by the IBT was an unnecessary distraction at a crucial time, the Negotiating Committee with assistance from the Eastern Territory and DL 54 staff, conducted themselves in a professional manner.”

District 54 and the Local 2276 Negotiating Committee met with and submitted proposals to Ultra-Met even as the IBT conducted their campaign, providing the members with full copies of all proposals and updates on the proceedings. “In the end, the members weren’t fooled by the empty promises from the IBT, and realized the importance of their IAM contract and the IAM National Pension Plan,” added Wright.
