Members of IAM Union Local 2171 in Johnstown, Pa., are preparing for upcoming contract negotiations with Lockheed Martin after completing a week-long Negotiation Preparation Field Program designed to strengthen their bargaining skills and build a strategic approach to the talks.
The training equipped the Local 2171 Negotiating Committee with essential tools for effective collective bargaining, including drafting contract language, presenting proposals, evaluating the company’s strengths and weaknesses, and developing strategies to achieve the best possible agreement for members.
The program was supported by Aerospace Chief of Staff Benji Sullivan, Aerospace Coordinator Bobby Barnwell, Winpisinger Center Instructor Richard Dees, Strategic Resources Assistant Director Ilana Boivie, and IAM District 98 Business Representative Mike Wentzel, who helped prepare the committee for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan highlighted the strength that comes from members working together toward shared goals.
“When our members are prepared, informed and united, they are in a stronger position to make their voices heard,” said Sullivan. “The time and effort this committee has invested in preparing for negotiations demonstrates their commitment to securing a strong contract for the hardworking members of Local 2171.”
“Preparing for negotiations is about making sure our committee has the knowledge, confidence and strategy to effectively represent the members at the bargaining table,” said IAM District 98 Business Representative Mike Wentzel. “This training gave the Local 2171 Negotiating Committee the tools to evaluate proposals, understand the bargaining process and work together toward an agreement that reflects the needs and priorities of the membership.”
Local 2171 members play a critical role in building key defense platforms, including the F-35, F-16, F-22 and C130. Their craftsmanship and dedication are vital to Lockheed Martin’s ability to meet national security needs and lead in aerospace innovation.
