Pension Increase is Key to Mettler Toledo Deal

Significant pension benefit increases were the key ingredient in a new collective agreement ratified by the members of Local 235 employed by Mettler Toledo, in Toronto, Canada.

“The membership wanted significant increases in pension benefits and wages and this bargaining committee delivered an agreement which was ratified by a 90 percent margin,” said District 78 Business Representative Derek Ferguson.

The three-year agreement provides wage increases of .5 percent in the first year retroactive to December 3, 2010, 2.75 percent in the second year and 2.75 per cent in the third year.

Other agreement highlights include: a four dollar increase per month per consecutive year in the pension benefit in the first year of the agreement; increased vision care benefits; increased physiotherapy coverage and significant improvements in contract language.

Mettler Toledo is a global manufacturer and marketer of precision instruments for use in laboratory, industrial and food retailing applications. The IAM members there include Service Technicians, Laboratory Technicians and Warehouse Personnel who service most of Ontario from the Mississauga facility.
