President Bush Re-elected 11-03-04 – President George W. Bush has been re-elected by the people of the United States. The people have spoken and have chosen President Bush to lead our country for the next four years. As a result of this, the next four years will be difficult for American workers. During the first term overtime pay has been drastically reduced; the cost of healthcare has soared; and jobs have been lost in record numbers. TCU will work very hard to protect our members’ interests, but it will be difficult. The fight for adequate funding for Amtrak and for transit carriers will be harder than ever. We can expect attacks on other programs of benefit to our members. Along with President Bush’s re-election the Republicans gained four more seats in the Senate. The worst part of this is the defeat of Senator Tom Daschle (D-SD). As the minority leader Senator Daschle controlled the Democrat’s agenda. He was a very good friend of TCU and he was directly responsible for the great improvements that we obtained in our railroad retirement pensions. TCU President Scardelletti issued a statement wherein he said, “I want to thank everyone in TCU for their support and effort on behalf of Senator John Kerry. Senator Kerry ran a good and honest campaign for President. TCU was with him and wishes him well.” President Scardelletti continued by saying, “TCU’s members worked hard for Senator Kerry and their efforts are very much appreciated.” |
