Report Warns of Growing China Aerospace Sector

The U.S.-China Economic Security Review Commission issued a report this week that documents the significance of U.S. aerospace companies’ assistance in the development of China’s growing aerospace industry.

The report, authored by the Rand Corporation, finds that, “Foreign involvement in China’s civil aerospace sector has unquestionably contributed to its development and thus to the development of China’s military capabilities.”

“The Rand report reaffirms our concerns and should serve as yet another wake-up call to U.S. policymakers,” said IAM Trade and Globalization Department Director Owen Herrnstadt, who has written and testified about how U.S. aerospace companies transfer production and technology to China. Proposals for addressing the transfer of technology and production to China are also contained in Herrnstadt’s testimony.
