IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger has announced the appointment of Brian Ruppert to the position of IAM CREST Project Coordinator and Instructor. The appointment was effective January 5, 2015.

Ruppert joined IAM Local 175 in 1996 as a Maintenance Electrician at the Harley-Davidson Motor Co. in York, PA. In 2009, Ruppert was appointed Safety Representative and became the plant’s second shift Maintenance Shop Steward in 2013. He has been an Associate Instructor for IAM CREST, working in partnership with the International Chemical Workers Union Consortium (ICWUC), since 2010.

Ruppert replaces Mike Hinthorn, a 37-year IAM member who retired after 16 years.

“Mike Hinthorn taught thousands of our members in dozens of industries across the country. Not only did he make their workplaces safer, he empowered those members to fight for safety rights in their shops. We wish him well in his retirement,” said IAM Safety and Health Director Mike Flynn. “Brian Ruppert will build upon that progress by continuing to work with our members and addressing a wide variety of safety issues in the workplace. We welcome Brian to our staff.”

IAM CREST (Corporation for Re-Employment and Safety Training) is a 501(c)(5) non-profit organization sponsored by the IAM designed to provide job re-entry and safety training services.
