Savoie Appointed Canadian Special Representative

IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger has appointedDistrict 140 Organizer Robert Savoie to Special Representative for Canada. The appointment is effective June 1, 2014.

Savoie began his career in 1979 at Canadian Pacific Air Lines, later Canadian Airlines International, where he occupied the functions of Shop Steward, Executive Committee member, and then President of Local 2309 in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. From 1999 to 2002, he worked on the merger of the Canadian Airlines International and Air Canada collective bargaining agreements as a member of the Negotiations Committee. Since becoming District 140’s Organizer in May 2004, Savoie has helped organize new members at Kuehne and Nagel, Swissport Canada Handling and Messier-Dowty. 

“Robert is a true unionist who firmly believes that each worker should work in a secure environment and is entitled to respect and dignity,” said Canadian GVP Dave Ritchie. “We are excited to bring Robert on board as a Special Representative and look forward to the contributions he will make to our staff and our members.”
