Seewald Hired as Winpisinger Center Education Representative

The IAM is proud to announce that Miriam Seewald has been hired as an Education Representative at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, MD, effective September 15, 2013.

Seewald, an IAM member for over three decades, comes to the Winpisinger Center with a wealth of experience in the U.S. airline industry and labor movement.

“As a former Shop Steward, Organizer, and Assistant General Chairperson, Miriam has an incredible range and depth of experience,” said Winpisinger Center Director Chris Wagoner. “She will be able to make an immediate positive impact at the Winpisinger Center.”

Before a second stint as a United Airlines Storekeeper that began in 2010, Seewald served as IAM District 141 Assistant General Chairperson from 1999 to 2010, where she represented IAM members in locations across the Western and Southern Territories. From 1990 to 1999, as a United Airlines Storekeeper, Seewald was elected Shop Steward. She began her career in 1979 as a welder at Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel and then from 1982 to 1985 worked as a welder and mechanic-fitter helper at Coors Brewery in Golden, CO.

Seewald has published papers on the state of trade unions in the airline industry, child labor and globalization. She holds a Master of Science in Labor Studies from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Arts from Lorretto Heights College in Denver.
