Senators Hold Press Conference in Support of Amtrak

On Tuesday, March 15th Senators Tom Carper (D-DE), Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Jon Corzine (D-NJ), Max Baucus (D-MT) and Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) held a press conference at Union Station in Washington, D.C. opposing President Bush’s plan to bankrupt Amtrak.

Each of the Senators spoke in favor of continuing the entire Amtrak system throughout the United States. They all stood together in their support for the workers of Amtrak and vowed to continue to fight for full funding for Amtrak’s continuance

In addition to the Senators Edward Wytkind, President of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO also spoke on behalf of Amtrak workers. Wytkind stated, “Bankrupting Amtrak would be a slap in the face to the 20,000 workers who have done everything possible to keep the carrier operating.”

The fight to save Amtrak is underway and we need your help. Contact your Senators and Congressman and ask them to support Amtrak workers and America’s passenger rail service.
