Simpson’s Social Security Rant Triggers Removal Petition

According to the White House, former Senator Alan Simpson will remain on the job as co-chair of President Barack Obama’s debt commission despite Simpson’s offensive remark that Social Security is “like a milk cow with 310 million tits.”

In an e-mail to Ashley Carson, Executive Director of the National Older Women’s League, the former Republican senator from Wyoming and longtime critic of Social Security was responding to an April 27 article in the Huffington Post where Carson criticized Simpson’s stance on Social Security.

“I’ve spent many years in public life trying to stabilize that system while people like you babble into the vapors about ‘disgusting attempts at ageism and sexism’ and all the rest of that crap,” responds Simpson. His e-mail to Carson is filled with insults, and he gets one more off in his closing: “Call when you get honest work!”

Simpson has since issued an apology, but many seniors’ groups, women’s groups and lawmakers say that’s not enough and are calling for his resignation. This is not the first time Simpson has voiced his contempt for those who rely on Social Security. He’s called recipients “greedy geezers” who only want to protect their retirement checks while forcing a huge national debt on to their grandchildren.
