The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) awarded IAM Legislative and Political Action Assistant Director Hasan Solomon as its 2011 Labor Leader of the Year. Presented at NBCSL’s 35th Annual Legislative Conference in Chicago, IL, Solomon was recognized for his advocacy on behalf of workers’ rights.

“There’s no higher honor than to be recognized by your peers for the work you do, and it’s very fitting that Hasan is the recipient of this year’s labor award from his fellow advocates at the NBCSL,” said Diane Babineaux, Chief of Staff to the International President. “His insights and enthusiasm on important issues translates into action and results that make a real difference in our members’ lives.”

Well known to lawmakers and their staffs whenever a vote affecting members’ rights is approaching, Solomon is also a leading voice in a number of national social justice organizations, including serving on the Executive Board of NBCSL’s Labor Roundtable and on the Executive Board of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) is a membership association representing over 600 African American state legislators from 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NBCSL members represent more than 50 million Americans of all racial backgrounds.
