A group of service contract workers at Maxwell-Gunter AFB in Montgomery, AL, became the first group at the base to secure IAM representation. The group, who are employed by Science Management Resources, Inc., voted recently for IAM representation and a contract negotiated under Service Contract Act (SCA) guidelines.
“These new members understand the importance of having a union contract in the service contract arena,” said Southern and Territory Organizer Tommy Mayfield. “They were aware of IAM expertise and experience in negotiating SCA contracts at other bases and they wanted the same opportunity for better wages and benefits.”
“This is an important first contract at a large base in the South,” said Southern Territory GVP Bob Martinez. “We’re confident that a strong contract for this group will provide an excellent incentive for other groups at the base to join the IAM.”
