The Negotiating Committee for Spokane WA, IAM Local 86 representing workers at ASC Machine Tools recently completed the Negotiating Preparation for Bargaining Committees Program at the Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, MD.
The weeklong class included training in power analysis, drafting contract language, presenting proposals, analyzing strengths and weaknesses and identifying a broad array of bargaining strategies.
“This is a fantastic program and the staff did a great job teaching the class,” said committee member and District 751 Business Representative Steve Warren. “The week at the training center was a positive experience for the entire committee. The group worked very hard all week trying to get as much as they could out of the program in order to negotiate the best contract possible.”
“The Negotiation Preparation Program at the Winpisinger Center is a valuable resource to help improve our Membership’s standard of living. Negotiating committees who participate in this week long course before they sit down with management normally perform better,” said IAM Western Territory General Vice President Gary Allen. “Local 86 and its members will benefit greatly from the knowledge the committee brings back to the bargaining table.”
Local 86 members at ASC Machine Tool manufacture mechanical machines that build steel structural supports and panels for buildings. The current contract expires December 31, 2016.
