Stimulus Dollars Fanning China Wind Farms

Recent news reports show stimulus funds are being used to create jobs in China and further decimate the U.S. manufacturing base.

Several companies, including General Electric Co. (GE) and Texas-based Cielo Wind Power LP, have announced a joint venture with China to create a $1.5 billion, 600-megawatt wind farm in Texas. The American companies are using $450 million worth of stimulus funds to manufacture wind turbines in China and ship them to the U.S. The deal was signed despite the stimulus package’s “Buy American” clause and congressional and White House claims the funds would only be used to support jobs at home.

The news comes just months after G.E. CEO Jeffrey Immelt announced plans to close its aviation repair facility in Albuquerque, NM, leaving 400 IAM members without jobs and issuing yet another blow to the future of U.S.-made technology.
