Stimulus Program Shows Initial Results

The $787 stimulus package passed earlier this year is being credited with creating or saving over 640,000 jobs, most in education and construction. A great start, says IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger, but far from the kind of recovery American families are in need of now.

“The White House should be commended in its efforts in quickly passing the first stimulus and pulling our country from the brink of what could have been a full-blown Depression,” says Buffenbarger. “But we can’t stop there. While the economy is showing a small glimpse of recovery, the job market is a long way behind. More than 31 million Americans are still idled to some degree in this grave recession. And, it’s only expected to get worse. More stimulus – more job-creating stimulus – is needed to get folks back to work.”
